Can I put this feeder in the dishwasher?
Answer: No, it is not recommended to put the feeder in the dishwasher as high temperatures can damage the parts and it may not fully disinfect avian diseases. -

Will this attract birds without any red? I don't use dye in my feeder.
Answer: Yes. We do not use any dye in either of our 2 feeders, and the hummingbirds just love eating (drinking?) from them! We have 2 and they are so pretty and easy to clean, which is very important to prevent illness in our little winged friends! We have seen over 10 birds on one feeder at a given time. -

Is the RED glass actually red IN glass or red coating ON glass?
Answer: It is red coating over glass. I wouldn't know except that the coating is wearing off a bit where it screws in to the feeder. -

Is a replacement glass part available?
Answer: Can you buy replacement bottoms? The flowers have faded and is not attracting the hummers. I am bought a cheap plastic feeder so I don't have the hummers leave me entirely. -

Is the perch removable?
Answer: Let me answer in two part as the answer is YES and NO. 1. For filling the feeder YES the perch and the feeding holes component do unscrew from the jar for filling. But if you are asking if the perch can be removed, just to have it removed ... 2. NO. The bottom of the 3 pieces (the perch) needs to be screwed into the jar with the feeder holes part just being the in-between-component. -

Is there a plastic-free version? (I keep seeing this feeder in lists of good feeders, but they refer to it as having a metal base, not plastic.)
Answer: This feeder does have a plastic basin bottom and top that attaches to the glass bottle. The flowers, or ports, are metal. We have lots of feeder options on our website, morebirds.com, but most will have plastic basin bottom with a metal basin top. Has anyone repainted the red flowers? The red came off when I tried to remove the rust.
Answer: Must live in a warmer climate that allows you to keep your feeders out year round. We have never had any rust on ours.... I would be careful to use a non toxic paint since they will be eating out of the flower. -

Can I replace the jar with a real wide mouth mason jar?
Answer: No, the jar is neither standard nor wide mouth mason jar. The listing is very misleading with regards to that. When comparing it to all of my canning jars of varying sizes and going back a few decades it doesn't match up at all. -

Answer: I have no idea if it is available. But you might try cleaning with some steel wool. You might get the rust off with a little Coca-Cola... it’s a great rust remover. -

Answer: I mix 1/4 cup sugar and 2 cups water, warm water dissolves the sugar best. Pour it in the feeder and it fills 3/4 full which is perfect.
