Answer: I extend them fully in order to ensure there is proper spacing between lines when running 4 of them. I don't believe you would have proper flexibility not extended fully. -

Can I drill a hole for the lock pin to hold them in the holder?
Answer: Two weeks ago I got caught offshore on our 31’ Chris Craft Flybridge. When we left the ocean was 4’ to 6’ with 12 second intervals which wasn’t bad for my boat, until the wind blew up a 3’ chop on top of it and we got beat up pretty bad. My new outriggers stayed in the holders, but the holders swung out into trolling positions on their own. I am planning to drill both the holders and poles with 3/16 holes to insert stainless pins to keep everything in place when things get rough. Hope this helps. -
